Kitchen Non-Confidential-Revisited...

So I posted a few weeks ago (okay maybe more than a few) about updating my kitchen. Well...I've finally actually done some things!!! Amazing, right?! I thought I'd share what I've been up to and maybe see if anyone has any opinions or comments...

First, my mom and I made some tags for those great hermetic jars I got from the Container Store. We purchased some card stock in fun, vibrant colors and used letter stamps to spell out what they contain (that was a trip, let me tell you!). I then tied the tags on to the jars with some matching grosgrain ribbon. I love how they turned out!! What do you think?

Ummm...as you can see from the picture above, I haven't painted yet :( Part of the reason is I wasn't sure which color to go with, but I think I've narrowed it down to two shades of turquoise. It's really hard to tell in the photo but I think I like the lighter color on the left (the darker color actually has a lot of green in it and is a little too dark for my taste). I'm pretty sure I'm goin' with the lighter color! It matches the light turquoise in the large plate (see photos below) and it really does look better in person, trust me!

My Mom and I went to an antique store a few weeks ago and found some great plates to coordinate with the ones that I already had from Crate and Barrel (we dragged my Dad along with us-I actually think he enjoyed himself a little!). I've laid out a few options...just playing around with them a bit. I like the first one the best (unfortunately, I have an odd number of striped plates and I really want to be symmetrical with my layout). Here are the three options:
#1-This one is my favorite (I might switch the green and blue striped with each other)...

#2-I like this one too but think it's a little boring.

#3-I feel like this one isn't quite right, I don't mind where the striped plates are but I'm not feeling the turquoise plates at the outside...draws the eye out too much...Any thoughts?

Last, but not least, I picked up a bunch of Flor tiles from CB2 this weekend and found out they fit perfectly to cover up the ugly tile that I've been trying to ignore since I moved in...I plan on ordering more (especially turquoise) and I think I'm going to return the striped one (the green's not quite right). I might just stick with solid colors and I love the fact that I can cover up the tile with a punch of vibrant color!!

So, now all I have left is:
-Paint the kitchen
-Prime and paint the lower cabinets (I've got the sand paper and primer at the ready)
-Hang the plates
-Order more Flor tiles
-Hang the roman shade that my Mom is making for me (she's the best-I'm really not great at sewing and I would probably mess it up!)
-Find hardware for the cabinetry (and install said hardware)
-Relax!

Whew...I'd better get crackin'!!

It's gonna look so cute! I agree with the first set up of plates. do you have enough room to spread them out like that? Depending on what happens with Paul maybe I could come early on Saturday and help paint or stay for a while on Sunday.

Sounds like a big project! Home improvement is just about my favorite thing :) Everything you have going looks great! And you've inspired me to go to the Container Store (love that place)!

I love the jars with their tags. Fun and organized at the same time. I agree the first plate arrangement is the best balanced. It's really bright and colorful. Did you photograph them on the background they will be on? The dark color really makes them stand out nicely. I do like the striped floor tile--I think if you moved it away from the other green, the two greens won't clash so much. The stripes add a nice punch to the floor and tie the varied colors together. I agree that the first plate arrangement is the best and I would not switch the green and the grey striped ones either. Not sure about the striped Flor tile. Maybe if you move it away from the green. How big is the space? Does it make it too busy, otherwise keep it for some contrast and fun. Looks great! Can't wait to see the finished product!

Hi!
Are you going to paint the soffit turquoise? Check how the plates will look against that. A turquoise background might make them disappear. What heppened to the cute 50s plates you got?
Love the flor tiles! That is a great idea. The hang tags look good too. Making them wasn't that bad!
Changing the hardware is easy-peasy, once you get it.

oh you have such cute taste! I am jealous! I am looking forward to the day that I can paint my home. I also think you are right about the lighter shade, it is a better choice :)

Cindy: I do have enough room to spread them out...the soffit is 32" x 80" It's huge!

PeachTree: Thanks! I definitely love the container store as well...

Marjorie: I photographed the plates on my yucky carpet (wish I had wood floors again!). They'll be going on the turquoise walls...and I actually already returned the striped square but I agree with you and I'm looking at the rest of their line!
